Vela Shawl Project Kit

The Vela Shawl Kit is a fun and relaxing project featuring an easily wearable shape and a distinctive geometric design. We've paired the design with Zealana Kiwi Fingering Weight yarn, a perfect blend of Merino Wool (40%), Cotton (30%), and Possum (30%) that makes this piece ideal for all-year-round wear. Inspired by the southern constellation Vela (the sails of a ship in Latin), this shawl is knit using a side-to-side construction, making its size adjustable based on your needs or available yarn. With a stitch repeat that you'll quickly memorise, this pattern is perfect for mindful knitting, and it comes complete with both written instructions and charts.

To ensure the geometric design shines through, we highly recommend choosing colours with high contrast when making your selection.
Main Colour: 3 x 40g balls of Kiwi Fingering Weight in your choice of colour
Contrast Colour: 3 x 40g balls of Kiwi Fingering Weight in your choice of colour
A wool needle for weaving in your ends and a printed copy of the pattern , plus a Crumbz project bag - if you would like more of the Project Bags you can add them to your order here.
Please note: To complete your beautiful Vela Shawl, you'll also need the a set 3.50 mm knitting needles. We haven't included them in this kit, as you might already have your favourite set on hand or you can add a pair to your order by selecting one of the options below.

Shawl Gauge/Tension:
25 sts x 40 rows per 10cm (4”) in Garter Stitch after blocking. While exact tension is not essential to the success of this project, if your tension is dramatically different your yarn requirements may also differ. The most important thing is that you are getting a knitted fabric that you like, so don't be afraid to go up or down a needle size to obtain this.
Shawl Finished Size, after blocking:
186cm (74”) length x 40cm (16”) deep, after blocking. Size is approximate and is easily customisable.
