You are welcome to stay all day or for just a few hours - it's very flexible and you can help where you feel most comfortable. All the materials are provided, plus we will have sewing machines and overlockers available for your use.

It's a very worthwhile cause and we hope you will enjoy the day working with other women to make sanitary wear items so that girls and women can live dignified lives.

About Days for Girls

Days for Girls began in 2008 when Celeste Mergens was assisting at an orphanage on the outskirts of Nairobi in Kenya.  The population at the orphanage had swelled from 400 children to 1,400 and Celeste realised that when they menstruated, the girls had no sanitary napkins, so were forced to sit on cardboard for the duration of their period, often going without food.

She thought - I'll get them disposable sanitary pads, but quickly discovered that without anywhere to dispose of the pads, this wasn't viable.  She and her team designed a washable, long-lasting pad and since then, the pad has become a kit which has undergone 28 iterations thanks to extensive feedback, in order to meet unique cultural and environmental conditions in communities throughout the world.  It soon became clear just how huge a difference hygiene solutions make in assisting women and girls to break the cycle of poverty and live lives of dignity.

Today, Days for Girls has reached more than 1 million women and girls in 116+ countries with DfG Kits and menstrual health education. This translates into over 115 million days of dignity, health, and opportunity for girls worldwide!
